Many people with scoliosis live lives of pain and discomfort, while many more are suffering without ever being properly diagnosed. If you’re dealing with pain and stiffness in your lower back, or you’ve received a scoliosis diagnosis earlier in life, contact Dr. Miok Hyoun at Loudoun Ideal Chiropractic for a complimentary consultation. Through advanced practice chiropractic care, Dr. Miok helps men, women and children in Loudoun County, Virginia, live pain-free with scoliosis.
Scoliosis is a condition in which the spine has side-to-side curves that twist the spine. We all have natural curves in our spine, but these additional curves make the spine look like an “S” or a “C” rather than a straight line. People with scoliosis sometimes appear to have an uneven waist or shoulders as a result.
There are a couple types of scoliosis that affect adults, Adult Idiopathic Scoliosis and Adult Degenerative Scoliosis. The first type is the continuation of scoliosis that is first diagnosed in childhood or during the teen years. The second type can develop later in life due to degenerative spinal discs, arthritis in the joints and/or the collapsing and wedging of disc spaces.
Many people with scoliosis do not even realize they have the condition. For those who were not diagnosed as a child but have developed scoliosis later in life, the symptoms of scoliosis may seem like the everyday aches and pains that accompany aging. Scoliosis can get worse over time, so it’s important to seek treatment if you’re experiencing symptoms such as:
Chiropractic care is a good option to help improve posture, decrease pain, and generally make life more comfortable for those with scoliosis. It’s important to note that chiropractic care is not a cure for scoliosis, but rather a treatment option.
If you suspect that you or your children may have scoliosis, contact Dr. Miok at Loudoun Ideal Chiropractic for a complimentary consultation. Dr. Miok begins the consultation with a thorough and complete analysis of the spine to see how scoliosis may be affecting alignment and posture, and if misalignments may be causing nerve pain as well.
Once this is complete, Dr. Miok creates a treatment plan specifically for your spine, incorporating advanced chiropractic techniques and methodologies. Patients with scoliosis pain may often benefit from other treatment exercises as well, like yoga poses, massage therapy, posture correction, and deep breathing techniques.
